2020-21 Capital Funding - bids for funding from school condition allocation grant

The Department for Education (DfE) are due to announce, the school condition allocation grant for the financial year 2020-21, the allocation will reflect schools moving to a new responsible body, opening or closing.

In advance of the announcement, Children and Families are opening up the opportunity for eligible establishments to bid for this capital funding.

The bidding round will commence on the 20th March 2020, and in line with the DfE guidance, to ensure that Schools maintain a Safe, Warm and Dry environment for our pupils to attend. Once all bids have been received from eligible establishments, a vetting process will take place to assess all submissions against the categories of allocation.

These categories are:-

  • Poor building condition
  • Health and Safety
  • Building compliance
  • Energy efficiency

Examples of schemes could include:

Flat roof replacement - significant deterioration, subject to leaking or severe water penetration and;

Replacement Boiler - subject to persistent breakdown and permanent failure probable

Electrical rewiring - tests confirm major failure probable

The deadline for submissions of bids is the 1st May 2020 at 5pm. It is anticipated that establishments will be informed of the outcome of their bids by the beginning of June 2020, following the Council's internal approval processes.
