Available school walking routes phase 2

Mobberley to Knutsford Academy and Mobberley to Knutsford Academy, The Studio.

The route between Mobberley and Knutsford Academy was previously deemed ‘unavailable’ as a walking route to school because of a lack of pavement between Broadoak Lane and Rockswood Way.

That situation was remedied with the installation of a new pavement completed in April 2017. A subsequent reassessment has deemed that the route is now ‘available’ as a walking route to school.

This change means that there will no longer be a need for the Council  to provide free transport for 33 children living in the area who reside within the statutory walking distance to school of 3 miles for pupils aged 11 plus.

Pupils for whom transport is withdrawn will receive a subsidy payment of £192 for each year until they complete their current education. This will be paid in a one off lump sum payment to eligible families.

The Council has previously acknowledged that, for such changes, effective communication and engagement will be a first priority to ensure that anyone potentially affected will have an opportunity to contribute their views before a final decision is made.

On 12 September Cheshire East Cabinet agreed to begin such a period of community engagement with local residents about the proposals. This commenced on 20 September and ended on 17 October.

The outcome of the engagement was analysed and used to inform the development of amended proposals were discussed at Cabinet on 13 March 2018. The following recommendation was approved:

“Confirms that the route between Mobberley and Knutsford Academy and Knutsford Academy, The Studio is deemed an ‘available’ walking route. Therefore free home to school transport will be withdrawn for current and new pupils living in Mobberley within 3 miles of the Academy, effective from 1st September 2018."
