Development on Backland and Gardens Supplementary Planning Document
The Development of Backland and Gardens Supplementary Planning Document was adopted by the Borough of Crewe and Nantwich Council on 15th July 2008.
It deals with the main planning issues which will be considered in determining a planning application for residential development on backland or in a garden. Many of these issues are not specific to development on backland and gardens but may apply to all new housing developments.
Development on backland sites and in gardens is generally quite difficult to achieve when combined with the requirements set out in the policies of the Borough of Crewe and Nantwich Adopted Replacement Local Plan 2011. Backland development can help to increase development densities. However, not all sites will be capable of being developed successfully; a careful and considered evaluation of the site needs to be carried out.
