To meet the national policy requirements concerning mineral provision (as set out in The National Planning Policy Framework), the Cheshire East Local Plan will need to identify sites and areas for future mineral extraction in the borough.
During 2014, we conducted a ‘call for sites’ seeking details of potential mineral sites and areas. Landowners and the minerals industry submitted 29 sites or areas. Each of these has now been subject to a detailed appraisal and the Minerals Sites and Areas Assessment Report includes recommendations including minerals safeguarding areas and indicative draft policies for minerals safeguarding areas.
Cheshire East is a representative member of the NWAWP . For further information on the monitoring of aggregate production in the North West of England, please visit the NWAWP webpage (hosted by Cheshire West and Chester Council).
