Our new Preparing for Adulthood Strategy

31 March 2021

We are pleased to announce the launch of Cheshire East’s Preparing for Adulthood strategy.

This multi-agency strategy for the Cheshire East SEND Partnership outlines our vision and principles for Preparing for Adulthood (PfA). It highlights the challenges we need to understand and details our priorities and what we plan to do to ensure that young people with SEND in Cheshire East are prepared for adulthood, as early as possible, to achieve their individual aspirations.

Higher education and/or employment:

Exploring different employment options, such as support for becoming self-employed and help from supported employment agencies.

Independent living:

Young people having choice, control and freedom over their lives and the support they have, their accommodation and living arrangements, including supported living.

Participating in society:

Having friends and supportive relationships, and participating in, and contributing to, the local community.

Being as healthy as possible:

In their adult life, including positive physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing.

It has been produced under the TOGETHER principles with young people, parent/carers and key partners.  These principles set out how we work together as equal partners to improve, develop and deliver services for all of our children, young people, families and adults.
