Cheshire East Parent Carer Forum Annual General Meeting

10 December 2020

The Cheshire East Parent Carer Forum held our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 12 November 2020 with guest speaker Oliver Jude. Oliver is a young entrepreneur whose clothing range was recently featured in London fashion week.

Oliver, who is autistic, was always seen as a troublemaker as a young boy until he took over his own Education Health and Care Plan at a young age and started his own inspiring clothing range. Oliver recently started doing YouTube vlogs called 'The OJ show', based around mental health within Covid, and has done these vlogs with celebrities such as Katie Taylor-Smith, Jack Walton and Joe Sealey. Oliver really is an inspirational young man.

We also had presentations from Laura Rogerson (Head of Service for  SEND at Cheshire East Council) and Jacky Forster (Director of Education and Skills at Cheshire East Council) around some of the questions our members asked. We also had our yearly elections and our steering group is now up to full capacity of 12 officers and, as a result of our AGM, we have appointed a further three representatives.

Our parent carer forum officers are listed below:

  • Chairs: Mandy Dickson and Kate Walters
  • Treasurer: Joanne Reeves•
  • Vice: Jean Campbell
  • Secretary: Claire Johnson
  • Part time admin and volunteer parent carer representative: Kayla Sellors
  • North Locality Officer: Chris Jaydeokar
  • Central Locality Officer: Danielle Parkinson
  • South Locality Officer: Jenny Cornes
  • Elective Home Education (EHE) Officers: Gill Davies and Nikki Greenford• Autism Officer: Diane Candlish
  • Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) Officer: Emma Shaw

We are planning on arranging some training for our members early next year and we currently have a survey out for the top three things members would like us to concentrate on in 2021. Along with the  SEND Locality Teams within the council, we are also looking at doing more coffee mornings and even a coffee morning dedicated to preparing for adulthood (PfA).

If you are a parent carer of a child or young person (aged 0-25) with  SEND and are not a member of the Cheshire East Parent Carer Forum, then what better time to join us?
