Don’t let a fall, stop you in your tracks
As you get older, you may start to worry about your risk of falling. You may worry even more in the winter months, when the pavements are wet and sometimes icy.
There is reason for this concern. One in three people aged over 65 fall each year and around half of people aged over 80. Falls are also the leading cause of accidental death in England. But there are simple steps you can take to reduce your risk.
Cheshire East Falls Prevention Group has organised a falls prevention week this year from 15th November 2021-21st November. As part of this, free taster falls prevention classes are being run by One You Cheshire East in Disley, Nantwich and Congleton. Additionally, free falls prevention 'Stand Strong' Classes are available at a wide range of locations across the Borough (subject to suitability). The classes are fun, friendly and local. It’s often thought that falls are a natural consequence of ageing. But ageing means it’s even more important to stay active.
More advice on how you reduce your risk of falling is available on the Live Well. Copies of the Cheshire Falls Prevention Leaflet are also available in local libraries and community centres.
