The Civic Centre car park is short stay Pay and Display. There are other long stay Pay and Display car parks are available nearby in Oak Street and there is also free parking available in Thomas Street (just 5 minutes walk away).

What's New?

Minecraft super build

On Tuesday 31 July come and explore old Crewe town in Minecraft, and then help us build the modern Crewe Lifestyle Centre and Library! There will be two Minecraft sessions on the day, at 10.30-11.30am and 1.00-2.00pm. Free event, but please book in advance for one of the sessions. Suitable for children aged 7 and over. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Crewe: Beyond Ultimate Reality summer sessions

As part of the library project, Crewe: Beyond Ultimate Reality, we are holding special all day workshops every Monday throughout the summer holidays. Children aged 12 and over are invited to take part in a range of exciting digital art sessions including sound installation, creative writing, sound and music engineering, Minecraft and projection mapping. The Arts Council England funded sessions are free and run by leading northwest digital artists. The workshops will run between 10.00am – 4.00pm, so children are advised to bring along a packed lunch, although refreshments will be available.

Mischief Makers robot mayhem

Sign up for one of our workshops on Tuesday 7 August and help build and program some mischief with our LEGO robots, Dennis and Gnasher! The free workshops are at 11.00-12.00 noon and 1.30-2.30pm. Suitable for children aged 8 and over. Please book in advance as places are limited.

Mako Education comic book workshop

On Thursday 9 August join Mako Education for a LEGO comic book creator workshop. Design your own comic book using LEGO. Using different characters and imagery, you’ll get to create and take home your own superhero world. You'll learn how to:

  • Try your hand at photography, image editing, graphic design and typography
  • Use green screen and special effects to edit your images
  • Change backgrounds and locations to give the characters superpowers and travel out of this world

You can take home a digital copy of your comic book and get your physical copy in the post. If you wish to bring any Lego pieces to feature in your comic book, you are more than welcome to do so. Just remember to take them home with you!

Sign up for a workshop at either 10.00-12.00 noon or 1.00-3.00pm. Tickets £2.00.

Mischief Makers pebble painting

On Saturday 11 August join us a morning of pebble painting with Love on the Rocks Wistaston Group. Come and paint your own Mischief Maker pebble and become part of the craze sweeping the nation. Hide it in the hope of making a stranger smile when they find it. Free event; call in between 10.00am and 12.00 noon.

John Kirk storyteller

On Monday 13 August at 11.30am storyteller, John Kirk, will be performing Dennis and the Chamber of Mischief. Enjoy a fun-packed, fantastical adventure with some fo your favourite Beano characters. Tickets 50p. Suitable for families with children aged 6 and over. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Twine digital storytelling workshop

Would you like to write and choose your own adventure story? Ever wanted to experiment with writing and narrative with player interaction? Curious about what it's like to add a few choices to a story you have kicking around? Join us on Tuesday 14 August at 1.30-3.30pm for a hands-on workshop. Learn Twine to create simple stories, and extend your stories with the power of the web. Suitable for young people aged 10-16 years of age. Free, but please book as places are limited. 

Learn my Way course

Would you like to learn the basics of using a computer? Perhaps you'd like to know how to search the internet, use email, shop online, or stay safe online. On Thursday 17 May we launched a free Learn my Way course which will run every fortnight on Thursdays at 2.00-4.00pm and Mondays at 10.00-12.00 noon.

The course is suitable for beginners or improvers, and staff will be on hand to assist you. You can even sit an exam to gain City and Guilds qualifications that will help when searching for work. Contact the library to book a place.

IT buddies

Volunteers are available on selected weekday for 1:1 basic IT sessions and advice. Get help with your device or learn the basics of getting online. £2.50 per hour. Booking is essential.

  • Creative Writers Group - 5.30-6.45pm - third Tuesday of each month. £2.00 per session, including refreshments. Please contact Angus at the library for further details
  • LEGO Club - 4.00-5.00pm - first Tuesday of the month. Open to all school age children, who must be accompanied by an adult. Free

Wednesday

  • Under 5s storytime - 10.00 -10.30am - weekly stories, songs and rhymes. Children must be accompanied by a parent or carer

Friday

  • Family history help - 2.00-4.00pm - monthly on third Friday of the month. Get help and discover our print and online family history resources with our Local Studies Librarian
  • Under 5s rhymetime - 11.00-11.30 - weekly. Children must be accompanied by a parent or carer

Other organisations in this library

HearSay shared reading group

HearSay is a shared reading group for anyone over the age of 16. Listen to stories and poems read aloud and chat over tea and biscuits in a friendly, welcoming environment. The group meets every Thursday at 1.00-2.30pm.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Get free advice and information in the library each Monday between 9.00am and 12.00 noon.

Police Community Support Officer advice desk

Local PCSO, Tracy Burndred, will be in the library every 5th Monday. Just drop in between 10.00 and11.30am to meet her.

Work Club

If you need support getting back into work then why not join us at Crewe Library every Tuesday between 10.00am and 4.00pm? We have experienced careers advisors on hand to help with CV writing, job application forms, and we can help you with the Universal Job Match website. You can access the latest jobs online and search the local papers for work, or find out how to develop your skills with one of our training courses. There's no need to book; just drop in. We even have free tea and coffee available.
