Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne on 6 February 1952 when Her Majesty was 25 years old.

An extended bank holiday, from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June, will provide an opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom to come together to celebrate the historic milestone. The four days of celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on The Queen’s 70 years of service.

Street Parties and Community Events

To celebrate this historic milestone, Cheshire East Council provided a community fund to allow residents to apply for funding to hold street parties or similar community events.

The deadline for applications was 8 April 2022 and record numbers of applications were received.

Road Closures

In order for a street party to go ahead that takes place on a road, a road closure will be required. 

The deadline for applications for road closures was 8 April 2022 and any applications for street party road closures received after this date will not be processed.

Local events

Confirmed events taking place across the borough so far include:

  • Congleton Park Jubilee Celebration, Thursday 2 June 2022  - Celebrating 150 years in the park and the 750th Charter Year. Jubilee Picnic with concert band.

The council have also been invited to play a role in a service of commemoration being held at Chester Cathedral on Thursday 2 June.

The Queen’s Green Canopy

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.

Everyone from individuals to Scout and Girlguiding groups, villages, cities, counties, schools and corporates will be encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees during the official planting season between October to March. Tree planting will commence again in October 2022, through to the end of the Jubilee year.

With a focus on planting sustainably, the QGC will encourage planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations.

As well as inviting the planting of new trees, The Queen’s Green Canopy will dedicate a network of 70 Ancient Woodlands across the United Kingdom and identify 70 Ancient Trees to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of service.

Free trees

Platinum Party at the Palace

Broadcast live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and supported across the entire BBC network, the Platinum Party at the Palace on Saturday, June 4th, will bring together the world’s biggest entertainers to perform in front of Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace. Applications to attend the Platinum Party at the Palace, to be held at Buckingham Palace on 4 June, close on 23 March and can be submitted online.
