  • Accessible Countryside for Everyone (ACE) is a website dedicated to giving ideas for accessible walks, green spaces and countryside across England and Wales.
  • Canal and River Trust has detail of the canals and rivers that provide over 1,500 miles of walking routes around the country, and links with thousands of miles of other footpaths. Originally built for horses to pull laden boats, towpaths now provide peaceful havens in towns and cities and linear parks throughout the country.
  • Visit Cheshire is a great website for finding new walking, cycling, horse riding and canoeing routes together with places to eat and stay.
  • Go 4 A Walk has plenty of information and over 1,100 photographs about walking in Britain's countryside - route maps, where to stay, hints and tips on best practice, impartial advice, competitions, etc.
  • Highway Code has the legal requirements for all road users, including pedestrians!
  • Living Streets is a UK charity for everyday walking.
  • The Ramblers is Britain's biggest walking organisation, providing help and advice on walking anywhere in England, Scotland and Wales. A registered charity with 139,000 members, they have been looking after Britain's footpaths and defending its beautiful countryside for more than 65 years.
  • Walking Britain has over 3,000 pages of information dedicated to footpaths - information on routes, photos, regions, where to stay, books, maps, walking equipment, clothing, and more.
  • Walking Forum is a forum for discussing all aspects of country walking and hiking in the UK with boards for general chat, gear, long distance trails, and all the popular UK walking destinations
  • Walkingworld - aims to provide the best online resource for walkers in the UK. Every walk comes with an easy-to-follow photographic guide and an Ordnance Survey map.
  • Youth Hostels Association (YHA) operate a network of 225 Youth Hostels across England and Wales. They aim to help all, especially young people of limited means, to a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside, particularly by providing hostels or other simple accommodation for them in their travels and thus to promote their health, rest and education.
