North West Crewe Package (NWCP)
The North West Crewe Package engagement exercise is now closed. Your feedback is being collated and analysed to produce a report which will be available to view on this page.
Cheshire East Council has ambitious plans to develop the north west of Crewe to provide housing and land for business.
To help with this process, we propose to undertake a series of highways and junction improvements around Leighton.
These improvements will facilitate access to development land identified in the councils Local Plan. They will reduce congestion and improve access to Leighton Hospital, as well as potentially allowing local businesses to expand.
The highways scheme, known as the North West Crewe Package (NWCP) would include the construction of a new road linking Smithy Lane, Minshull New Road and Middlewich Road (A530).
It would include the realignment of Smithy Lane, Flowers Lane and improvement to other road junctions associated with the scheme.
We also propose to close a section of Minshull New Road located outside of Leighton Academy to traffic.
The engagement exercise ran between 5 March and 3 April 2018 and is now closed.
Further information about the scheme can be found in the engagement leaflet (PDF, 2.1MB).
Thank you if you participated in the exercise, your feedback is currently being combined and analysed to produce a report which will be available to view here.
The scheme was submitted to the local planning authority in December 2018. If it is successful construction will commence in early 2020, subject to funding and completion of necessary statutory procedures.
