Brook Street, Macclesfield – Highway improvements

We are are carrying out highway improvement works along Brook Street, Macclesfield from 10 February 2023. The work will take place between the junction with Sunderland Street to the junction with Leigh Street and will include resurfacing, traffic signal upgrades and new road markings. 

Resurfacing works will also take place on Sunderland Street from the junction with Park Green to Townley Street from 20 February.

To minimize future visits and closures, whilst we’re here we will also be undertaking maintenance activities such as sign cleansing and sign reductions, replacement of pedestrian the guard rail and renewal of uncontrolled pedestrian crossings.

We understand there is no right time to undertake this work and the scheme has been carefully planned to minimise disruption to local residents, businesses and members of the travelling public.

When and what is happening

Works to deliver the improvements will start on Friday 10 February 2023 and will be complete by mid March. The works will take place under phases as detailed below and will include road closures:

Phase 3 – Footway resurfacing

24 hour Eastbound road closure

2-way temporary traffic signals will also be in place at the junction with Sunderland Street during this time

Sunderland Street – Park Green to Townley Street

Road closure between 09:30 – 15:30

Diversion Route

There is a signed diversion in place and members of the travelling public are advised to follow this, including cyclists due to the nature of the works. Alternatively, a breakdown of the full diversion route can be found here: one.network

Further information

• Those who are directly impacted by these works have been informed by letter
• Emergency vehicle access is being facilitated through the closure
• The road closure is necessary to protect the safety of both members of the public and our workforce
• Diversion routes are in place and signed and should be followed
• Local businesses remain open and access will be facilitated where possible via diversion routes
• Delays are expected and motorists should plan journeys accordingly
• Please ensure that no vehicles are parked along the road
