Highway safety inspections

We inspect all roads and footpaths in Cheshire East on a regular basis to identify safety defects and arrange any repairs.

Code of practice for highway safety inspections

Our Code of Practice for Highway Safety Inspections (PDF, 701KB) sets out how we keep Cheshire East’s highway network safe for the travelling public.

Well Managed Highway Infrastructure (WMHI)

In order to comply with new national guidance and its recommendations, the council needs to revise its codes of practice for highway safety inspections and winter and adverse weather service.

The proposed new approach, now subject to public consultation, is to consider additional local risk factors such as use, the proximity of schools, shops, transport hubs, health services and other factors which could be considered to help determine the priority of highways work in Cheshire East.
