Sub-Regional Leaders Board’s Covid-19 strategic response

8 April 2020

Last week (3 April 2020) saw leaders from across Cheshire and Warrington give their commitment to work together to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. The partners have been working effectively for many years – meaning they had a solid platform to support a strategic response and their coordinated effort towards the pandemic is already delivering results.

They agreed to continue to do everything they can to protect local people, businesses and their workforces and help the area recover over the weeks and months.

The leaders from the NHS, local government, police, fire and the business sector have agreed the following:

“We will:

  • Help each other, in a spirit of mutual aid, to ensure that we can continue to deliver essential front-line services in Cheshire and Warrington, particularly those services that support the most vulnerable, putting the interests of our residents at the heart of our work;
  • Support and protect to all of our key workers who are working tirelessly and in challenging conditions to protect our residents;
  • Work together to ensure the government understands the impacts of this crisis on our residents, businesses and organisations;
  • Ensure national requirements are implemented locally and that resources are used where they are really needed;
  • Continue to provide support to our local businesses so that they are ready to re-open when restrictions are lifted;
  • Identify and support those people that are impacted, both by Covid-19 itself and by its wider consequences.

“We have also started to plan together how we will lead the sub-region so that it can recover from this crisis; continuing to lead the way for sustainable and inclusive growth to enable all our residents to thrive in the future.”

Councillor Sam Corcoran, leader of Cheshire East Council and Chair of the Leaders Board, said: “As partners, we have to work strategically together to fight the Coronavirus disease.

“In working together, our aim is to protect as many local people as possible and help our economy by supporting our sectors and businesses alongside our borough’s workforce.

“The scale of the task will not end when the government guidelines and restrictions are lifted. We know there will be a lot of partnership working to come as we work towards recovering from the impact and consequences of Covid-19 across our sub-regional communities.”
