The Visitor Economy in Cheshire East is worth £548 million per annum and the region welcomes almost 10 million visitors each year, supporting nearly 7,000 jobs.

After a predictable decrease in numbers during 2020, Cheshire East Council are working to ensure the Visitor Economy in Cheshire East returns to pre-covid levels as soon as possible through the development of a short term action plan and planning for a new Visitor Economy Strategy from 2023.

The visitor economy team

Cheshire East Council has a dedicated Visitor Economy team, a small team who are responsible for the promotion of Cheshire East as a vibrant, exciting visitor destination. The team support the development of tourism infrastructure across the region to increase visitor figures and enhance the visitor experience.

On a practical level, the team work closely with visitor attractions, events, town councils and retailers to promote their visitor offer. The team work closely with Marketing Cheshire, the regional tourist board to manage PR campaigns to promote the area on a local and national scale, and deliver projects to improve the visitor experience in Cheshire East.

The team are responsible for the management of Macclesfield and Congleton Visitor Information Centres, and the provision of visitor information across the borough.
