Frequently Asked Questions:
Can someone make a request on my behalf?
Yes, but only if we have your permission in writing.
Will you let me have all the information that is held
on me?
Subject to exemptions you will receive a copy of all the
information the Council holds about you on its computer systems and
information held in paper form. You will also receive a description
of the purpose(s) for which we use your data and where we got it
from, and a list of other organisations to whom we have disclosed
the data. You will be provided with a copy to keep and check for
accuracy.
How long will a request take?
The Council must provide the information within 40 days of
receipt of your request. However the 'clock' does not start until
we have received all the relevant information, the fee and proof of
your identity.
Do I have to pay for the information?
Yes. A fee of £10 is charged for each request; this fee must be
paid before we can begin processing your request.
What should I do if the information is
wrong?
You must write to us telling us what data is incorrect and
detailing what action you wish us to take.
If you think the use of your personal data could cause you
damage or distress you should write to us explaining how so
that we can take any necessary steps to stop this happening.
What if I'm not happy with CEC's
response?
You can appeal to the Council by contacting the Data Protection
Officer at Westfields. If you are still not satisfied then you can
request a review by the Information Commissioner.
