Mayor's Coffee Morning Proves A
Money-Spinner

13th July 2009
A coffee morning hosted by Cheshire East
Mayor Margaret Simon drew scores of shoppers who gave generously to
her chosen charity causes.
The kettle was on the boil all morning at
Municipal Buildings in Crewe on Saturday as Councillor Simon
helped charity volunteers serve brews and biscuits to a steady
stream of visitors to the Council Chamber.
Each was asked to pay £1.50 to attend to help
raise cash for Hearing Dogs for the Deaf and Action Duchenne - a
charity raising cash for sufferers of a rare type of muscular
dystrophy.
Guest of honour at the event was Crewe two
year-old Thomas Robinson who suffers from the condition.

Volunteers also brought along three hearing
dogs for the deaf. By the end of the year the Mayor hopes to have
raised enough cash to fund the training of another dog from a
rescue centre.
Visitors were also given the opportunity to
tour the building and Mayor's Parlour.
Councillor Simon said: "The Council Chamber
was kitted out like a cafe with table cloths and chairs where
people could enjoy a drink and biscuits."
"It was lovely to meet the people of Cheshire
East in an informal setting where they could get to know a little
more about the new Council and the worthy causes we are
supporting."

“Charities have found it hard to raise cash
during the economic downturn but local people showed their
generosity, many chipping in extra cash on top of the entry
charge.”
More than £500 was raised which included cash
from a tombola and raffle.
