Junior Recycling Officer of the Year
Cheshire's
new Junior Recycling Officers of the Year are David Palmer and
George Rowlands from Wistaston Church Lane Primary School in
Crewe.
The two have been presented with a mountain bike each, £15 in
vouchers each as well as trophies.
Other finalists were from Church Lawton Primary School, St Mary
of the Angels Primary School, Little Sutton, Whirley Primary
School, Broken Cross, Wincham Primary School, Wincham and St
Oswald's Church of England Aided Primary School, Mollington.
The finals were held at Tatton Park, where all the finalists
presented the work they had undertaken to raise awareness of waste
reduction and recycling in their schools. As part of the day, the
children, parents and teachers played Recycling Bingo and, after
the presentation of Awards, they were taken on a tour of Tatton's
gardens which had an emphasis on recycling and composting.
County Council Vice Chairman Ken Oliver who presented the prizes
said: "It was again another close call.
"All the finalists had shown great dedication to their tasks.
Between them they had run projects to recycle an impressive range
of items including paper, cardboard, cartons, kitchen waste, ink
cartridges and phones.
"David and George impressed the judges with their consistent and
creative work to promote waste reduction and recycling in their
school - from reusing yoghurt pots to grow seedlings for the
school's vegetable patch, to their novel way of advertising
recycling messages on displays made of empty packaging."
