Traveline NextBuses
Traveline
Nextbuses is a new mobile internet service that gives
you the next bus times anywhere in Scotland, England and Wales
straight to your mobile phone. It is designed to work on mobile
phones that have internet access.
How can I get NextBuses on my mobile phone?
Send a text message with the word TRAVELINE to 84268 to receive
a bookmark for the service or visit Nextbuses.mobi.
Nextbuses Apps are
also avaialbe for iPhone and Android phones.
How does it work?
Find your stop
- Enter either a postcode, a street and town (eg Broad Av
Leicester), or a stop code if you know it.
Browse stop list
Use the map or the list to work out which bus stop you want.
Make sure you choose the stop on the right side of the road for
your journey. Click on the relevant stop from the results list. On
most phones, you can also press the corresponding number on your
phone keypad.
If you have searched by a street name and town, there may be
many results. If you can't find the stop you wanted, or the results
aren't where you expected, scroll down your screen to view other
locations. If you still can't find your stop, refine your search eg
by using a postcode.
Departure board
- You will now get the times of the next buses leaving the stop.
Live information is shown where available eg "in 6 min", otherwise
the sheduled departure is shown as a time eg "08:31".
- You can click on one of the route numbers to see more bus times
on the same route.
- The other options on the screen allow you to look at nearby
stops or start a new search.
- You can bookmark the departure board on most phones for 1-click
use in future.
What does it cost?
This service is free, apart from any normal data charges made by
your mobile operator (contact your operator for details)
It does not work on my phone (see Traveline Txt below for
alternative)
If you can't get mobile internet on your phone, you can check
the next buses from a particular bus stop by sending the bus stop
code in a txt to 84268. The bus stop code may be displayed on the
bus stop flag or in the timetable case at the bus stop (in Scotland
txt the code to 0777 608 2 608 and in Yorkshire txt the code to
64422).
The txt message you send will cost your normal txt message
charge. In some areas the reply will be free of charge. In most
areas including Cheshire the reply will cost up to 25p.
Traveline Txt
The Traveline Txt service allows you to receive bus times direct
to your mobile phone. Every bus stop in the UK has been issued with
a unique code, which you can text to 84268. The codes in Cheshire
East will be displayed on your bus stop display or can be
found on Transport Direct.
Using Transport Direct
To find the code for stops in your area check the
stop details on the maps at Transport Direct Txt
Codes.
- Using the homepage "Find a Place" option put your address or
postcode into the "Place" box and click "go".
- Check the names of the stops which appear in your area (you may
need to zoom in on the stops - the stop names and codes appear only
when zoomed in to the largest scale).
- Note down the codes for the stops which you use regularly they
look like "chwmtap". Then text the code to 84268.
What is the Council's role in these services?
Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester Councils working in
partnership run the Traveline call centre based at Ellesmere Port
and are responsible for the Cheshire bus stop and timetable data
that is used in the NextBuses and Traveline Txt services.
The bus times used in these services are those times supplied to
the Council by the bus operators. Most operators only supply times
at the principle timing points and we use a computer calculation to
estimate the rest of the intermediate stop times.
If you have any questions about the accuracy or completeness of
the information used in these services please use the feedback
forms provided on the sites or
