Why Beartown Bus?

Congleton's town bear was a major attraction at the town's Wakes, but in 1662, the bear died suddenly just before the Wakes. It was essential to have a replacement bear straight away, and some money to be used for buying a new bible was allocated for this. There is no evidence that the bible was delayed but the memory and rhyme lives on:

"Congleton rare, Congleton rare, sold the town bible to buy a bear".

Beartown Buses are normally operated by easy-access buggy and wheelchair friendly vehicles.
