Roadworks and Highway Closures
This section contains details of all current and planned
roadworks as well as information on how we handle closures of the
highway.
Roadworks
Please refer to our Transport and Travel section of this
website to obtain details of live traffic and travel information.
Our information service, aims to keep road users informed about
road works, up to three months in advance whenever
possible.
Online information
We use a map based
system to show all current and proposed road works throughout
Cheshire, and use a severity rating to give an indication of the
likely impact on traffic. We also have a text list of
disruptions on Cheshire's roads.

Highway Closures
These fall into two categories:
- Unplanned (i.e. emergencies)
- Planned.
Unplanned Closures
These are often instigated by the Police as a result of a
physical barrier (eg: accident, fallen tree, floods, snow). We have
various contracts to deal with these problems which include
emergency response arrangements.
The Area Highway Teams can be
contacted at any time (24 hours) to deal with emergencies.

Planned Closures
Closures arranged by the Council are normally for works to be
carried out by Statutory Undertakers (Gas, Electric, Water etc) or
by the Council.
On occasions, it may be necessary to request that a road is
closed to hold an Event or to ensure that visitors are safely
guided to the event. If you think that the road needs to be closed
to hold your event, we advise that you consult the Event Safety Advisory Group in the first
instance.
Planned Closures depend upon various considerations such as the
width of a particular road compared with the extent of the road
works. Health & Safety Regulations, covering the safety of both
the travelling public and the workforce carrying out the road
works, are of prime importance.
With all planned closures, Notices are posted locally which
include details of the signed diversions if needed.
For planned closures that involve works by the Council, the
Council will notify local Town & Parish Councils, affected
businesses and frontage owners. However, for planned closures that
involve works by Statutory Undertakers or Events, the Statutory
Undertaker or Event Organiser will be responsible for notifying
affected businesses and frontage owners.
