Road Safety

The Road Safety Team aims to:

  • minimise road crashes and casualties
  • improve access to the highway for all, especially vulnerable road users
  • address road safety issues that affect quality of life in our communities.

We will achieve these aims through a combination of Engineering, Education, Encouragement, Training and Publicity, working in partnership with others where we can. In this way we will contribute to wider service and corporate objectives that are consistent with these aims.

The Good Egg Guide to In-car Child Safety

Good Egg Guide Competition (external link)Are you a 'Good Egg'? A new guide to buying and fitting child car seats has been launched across Cheshire East called 'The Good Egg Guide to In-car Child Safety'. This colourful, user-friendly booklet contains information and advice about how to make sure you buy the right seat for your child and vehicle, how to check that a seat is correctly fitted and how to keep on the right side of the law.

It is called 'The Good Egg Guide' because children are fragile and need to be protected. By making sure that they are in a correctly fitted and appropriate car seat, you can help reduce their risk of a head injury by up to 3 times* in the event of a collision.

Contact us for a copy of the Guide or download one from the campaign web site.

More on Child Car Seats

As well as the 'Good Egg Guide to In-car Child Safety', the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) have a website with lots of information and advice about buying and fitting child car seats - RoSPA Child Car Seats. You may also find the Britax UK site of use - it has a Vehicle Compatibility Chart for both standard seats and seats that have 'Isofix', the worldwide standardised fitting system between a car and a child seat. Cheshire Safer Roads Partnership

Cheshire East Council Road Safety is also a partner member of Cheshire Safer Roads Partnership. The Partnership brings together those agencies with a collective will to reduce the number of people killed or injured on the roads of Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Halton and Warrington.

Road Safety Engineering

We investigate the occurrence and distribution of accidents on Cheshire's roads and devise engineering measures to reduce the risk of future accidents. The limited financial resources available are concentrated on sites or areas where personal injury accidents occur. Road Safety Audits are done at various stages in the development of highway schemes to ensure that they operate as safely as practicable. For further details please contact the Road Safety Team.

Personal Injury Collision Data

The Road Safety Team is responsible for managing the Council's personal injury collision database for incidents that occur on the highway. This information is provided to us by Cheshire Constabulary, who are legally responsible for recording all relevant information to national standard. We use the data to identify current road safety issues and problems, which in turn guides the annual road safety investment and work programmes.

We can also provide data to the public for commercial and educational purposes. This service may incur a charge depending on the purpose that the data is to be used for. To discuss your requirements, contact the Road Safety Team.

To request collision data for a particular location in Cheshire East, please complete the request form (MS Word, 111KB) and return it to Traffic and Road Safety Team, Floor 6, Delamere House, Delamere Street, Crewe CW1 2LL with the appropriate payment if applicable.

Did you know?.... 25% of collisions involving a Cheshire resident happens within 1km of their home address.
