A34 Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley Bypass
The scheme which was first mooted before the Second World War
has now received funding approval from the Department of Transport.
Cheshire East Council is to receive £48.224 million from the
Government and will put in £3.424 million itself.
The five kilometre (3 miles) route runs to the west of Alderley
Edge, starting at Harden Park roundabout and rejoins the existing
A34 to the south of Nether Alderley village (a plan of the route
that the new bypass will take can be viewed by using the link
below). Birse Civils have been appointed as
the Contractor for the main civil engineering works, they began
work on site in January 2009 and will take approximately two years
to complete the bypass.

Honourable George Osborne, MP for Tatton .
Monks Heath / Bollington Lane improvements
As part of the works for the bypass, we have been upgrading
Bollington Lane, including provision of traffic signals at either
end, and constructing a southbound left-turn lane at Monks Heath.
Work began early 2009 and are currently expected to take a few
months to complete. The duration is due in part to the large number
of utilities such as water, electrics, phone lines, etc, which need
to be diverted. We are endeavouring to carry out as much work as
possible during off-peak times.
Some of the work will involve the use of temporary traffic signals,
however please be assured that the signals will be manually
controlled during the working day and removed when safety
permits.
Inevitably the Monks Heath works will cause some delay for which we
apologise. Thank you for your patience while the work takes
place.
Reminder to all drivers
We would like to remind all drivers that use Nursery Lane and
Sossmoss Lane that there is a legally enforceable one way gyratory
system in operation for all traffic, at all times, (not just
construction traffic). From the A535 Chelford Road eastwards
towards Welsh Row, traffic must use Nursery Lane, and traffic from
Welsh Row westwards to A535 must use Sossmoss Lane (an
anticlockwise gyratory system).
