HS2 in Cheshire East
Home Secretary
Theresa May, pictured above at Crewe station, visited Cheshire East
on the day of the announcement and said it would bring great
economic benefit to Crewe and Cheshire East.
The Government has announced its proposals for a high speed rail
line which links the West Midlands with Manchester. Called HS2
(phase two), it will pass through various parts of Cheshire
East.
HS2 in Cheshire East – what it is and what it isn’t
The announcement of the Birmingham to London High Speed
2 route is positive news.
It reinforces Cheshire East as the best place to live and do
business in the North West. There is no doubt that the investment
in a high speed rail connection (HS2) will consolidate Cheshire
East as one of the most connected areas in the UK and will support
existing businesses, inward investment and job creation in and
around Crewe.
Cheshire East Council has negotiated a good deal for the area
with the DfT (Department for Transport) and HS2 Ltd. We have worked
extremely hard to protect our historic assets in the north of the
Borough, whilst presenting a case for investment which will have
major economic benefits for Crewe
and the surrounding local area. We have done this whilst
lobbying hard to minimise the impacts on all of our communities
throughout Cheshire East.

What we will do with the feedback
Cheshire East Council will be presenting the points you make to
the Department for Transport and HS2. We will be challenging them
to review their plans in order that any negative impacts are either
eliminated or at least minimised in the best interests of Cheshire
East businesses and residents. We will continue to take on this
role throughout the planning process of the HS2 project.
