Programmes for Older people
Vintage Leisure
Vintage Leisure is a specialised activity programme for older
people. The project is supported by Central and Eastern
Cheshire Primary Care Trust, Age Concern Cheshire and Wulvern
Housing.
Vintage Leisure aims to:
- Improve functional capacity to enable each individual to reach
their optimal level of independence and quality of life
- Improve the mental, physical and social well being of its
participants
- Reduce participants risk and/or incidence of falls and
injuries
The
programme consists of two elements; an outreach programme
and sessions based in community settings.
Courses which are designed to improve the health and
stability of older people are currently available at locations
within Cheshire East Council. Further information can be
obtained on Tai Chi (PDF, 1.4MB), Sit
& Be Fit (PDF, 3MB) and Be steady, Be safe (PDF,
1.3MB).
Vintage Leisure - Outreach Programme
The Outreach Programme consists of a range of activities
delivered in older people’s settings, including Sheltered
Housing, Day Care Settings, Community Groups and Residential Homes.
The programme offers six core activities to participants,
which involve a combination of physical, mental, sensory and social
aspects, including Chair-based Exercises, Fun Games, Boccia, Magic
Carpet Journey and Short Walks and a Sing-a-long. The programme is
agreed in conjunction with the venue or group and to date has
been delivered to over 20 venues, including Crewe & Nantwich
Carers Support Group, Alzheimer’s Society, The Hilary Centre and
Day Care Services.
Vintage Leisure Community Exercise Sessions
The community
element of the programme consists of open access sessions delivered
in local venues. Currently there are 5 community sessions
available that cater for a diverse functional range. Each session
provides graded progressions and adaptations for specific medical
conditions and disabilities.
Falls Programme
The Health Improvement and Promotion Team has played
an important role in the design and implementation of an integrated
falls service across central Cheshire. It initiated and designed a
Falls Prevention Information Pack. Clients attending
Older People’s activity sessions are initially assessed for falls
risk and can then be fully assessed by council staff and referred
if appropriate. In conjunction with Leighton Hospital, the “Next
Steps” bag has been launched providing information to all 60+
individuals being discharged from hospital. Further details of
services available are on the Falls
Prevention page.

Step By Step
Step By Step is a walking programme providing weekly led
walks throughout the area of Crewe and Nantwich in a safe,
welcoming environment. There are currently 4 led walks
per week in Crewe, Nantwich, Wistaston and Haslington that measure
around 1.5 – 2.5 miles and target the sedentary
population. The walks are free, readily accessible and
supervised by trained volunteers.
Message In A Bottle
The message in a bottle is a voluntary scheme for anyone living
at home, who might be reassured to know that essential information
would be readily available to the Emergency Services, should they
suffer an accident or sudden illness.
The scheme ensures that vital information is available, not only
to identify an individual but also to advise the Emergency Services
of relevant illnesses, allergies and contact details.
In the event of an emergency this information pot can be taken
to hospital with the patient and this will allow faster more
effective treatment.
For more information visit the Message in
a bottle page.
