Message in a Bottle (MIAB)
What is the Message in a Bottle (MIAB) emergency scheme?
MIAB is a voluntary scheme for anyone living at home, who might
be reassured to know that essential information would be readily
available to the Emergency Services, should they suffer an accident
or sudden illness.
The scheme ensures that vital information is available, not only
to identify an individual but also to advise the Emergency Services
of relevant illnesses, allergies and contact details.
In the event of an emergency this information pot can be taken
to hospital with the patient and this will allow faster more
effective treatment.
What do I have to do with it?
Fill in the form using a ball point pen (Each member of the
house will have to fill in a form, and each form should have a
passport photo so you can be easily identified).
Fold the form to fit if to the bottle and replace the cap Place
the bottle into the fridge door compartment so that it can be
easily found by the emergency services (Placing the bottle in the
fridge will also prevent it being damaged in a fire).
Place the sticker on to the fridge door so the emergency
services know you are a member.
(You will also need to stick a label to the inside of the front
door so that it is clearly visible. This means that it is not
visible from the outside)
Where can I obtain a bottle?
The bottles are available FREE of charge, at
Customer Service Points throughout Cheshire East.
