Cheshire East Carers

Support For Carer’s Own Health

It is important that carers take care of their own health and wellbeing so that they are better able to cope with the demands of caring for someone else.  Often carers can neglect their own health needs and we have forged strong links with colleagues in the health services to help to identify carers and ensure their particular needs are met.

Current Activities

  • GPs identify carers from among their patients.  There should also be a Carer Link at each GP surgery to deal specifically with carers and the issues that they face.
  • The Cheshire  Carers Centre also provide advice on getting the most from your GP
  • The Cheshire Carers Centre is piloting a voucher scheme for carers to access therapies though colleges
  • The Carers Fund can provide a maximum of £300 per household to support carers: the process is through application through a panel
  • Exercise on prescription - please ask your GP for details
  • Central and Eastern Cheshire 'Looking After Me' course
  • Carers courses include elements such as moving and handling and coping strategies
  • Books on prescription from East Cheshire libraries
