Living in a Care Home
Finding a care home for you or a family member or friend can be
a stressful time. We would like to be able to support you in the
task. The Care Quality Commission, and its website, has up to date
and relevant details on care homes across England. The website also
enables you to search for other care services – such as hospitals
and care agencies. We do not provide individual lists of care homes
on this website and would recommend that you visit the Care Quality Commission
website.
Care Home Fee Rates:
There are two main types of care homes; residential
and nursing. You may also see references to Care Home and Care
Homes with Nursing – for example by the Care Quality
Commission.
- Residential homes provide full board accommodation and personal
care.
- Nursing homes provide full board accommodation, personal care
and qualified nursing care. A nursing home has to
have a professionally qualified nurse on duty 24 hours per
day.
You have a number of options, should you or the person you care
for wish to move to a home:
- You can make your own arrangements direct with a care
home.
- You can ask Cheshire East Social Care to help. This is a
discussion with you to find out how best to support you with the
problems you are having. We will look at your needs and decide
whether you are eligible to move to a care home.
- You can ask another organisation to help you – such as Age
UK.
Paying for care home accommodation
We are not able to provide details of care home fees as
establishments base the price on the needs of the individual
person. As a guide, Cheshire East Council has a ‘standing offer’
contract rate with some care homes who receive a contribution
towards the cost of their care from Cheshire East Council. The
weekly standing offer contract rates for 2012 – 13 are:
| Care Type |

*Please note that the Nursing fee rates do not
include the Registered Nursing Care Contribution (RNCC), sometimes
referred to as Free Nursing Care, this will be paid separately by
the local Primary Care Trust.
The RNCC weekly rate from 1st April 2009, and
including 2012 – 13, is £108.70
Third Party Contributions (Top Ups)
Some Homes may ask for a Third Party
Contribution to be made in addition to the Cheshire East Council
Standing Offer contract rate. If this occurs it should be made
clear to you before the placement begins and can only be requested
where you, the Home, Cheshire East Council and any third party who
may be making the payment have signed a written agreement.
