Equality and Inclusion – Adult Social Care
Our Commitment
Cheshire East Council’s Adult Services is committed to achieving
equality for all customers and staff.
The Senior Management Team are committed to establishing
equality and human rights principles and values that will govern
structures, mechanisms, policies and procedures to address any
inequalities in the way services are promoted, delivered, monitored
and reviewed.
They also aim to create a culture and environment for service
users and staff to be treated fairly and equitably irrespective of
race, ethnic origin, nationality, gender, disability, age, gender
reassignment, religion, sexual orientation, marital or parental
status, political belief or social/economic group.
The Single Equality Scheme
The Single Equality Scheme is a public commitment of how Adult
Services will meet the duties placed on us by equality laws. Our
SES is currently based around the six equality strands (ethnicity,
gender, disability, age, sexual orientation and religion and
belief), and also includes community cohesion. However, reference
is also made to gypsy and travellers, carers and white British from
poor areas.
The scheme is currently an interim document because the Council
is currently carrying out a corporate consultation on its approach to equality
issues.
Equality Impact Assessments
The purpose of an Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) is to improve
the decisions the Council makes. It works a bit like a risk
assessment, providing a systematic way of checking that
policies and key decisions do not discriminate against minority
groups.
The Council has currently carried out the following equality
impact assessments. More will be added as they are completed.

Equality Data
In order to understand how to improve our services in
relation to equality and inclusion we have to
understand the characteristics of our local population
and our service users. The documents below give an outline of
what we know.
Equality Events
Cheshire East Council organised some special events in September
2010 to find out about people's experiences of social care.
Key questions that we wanted answered included; how easy is it
for you to find information on services, are staff friendly
and helpful to people from different equality groups, how easy have
you found it to get the help that you need? This feedback was
compiled into a report with actions that we will monitor ourselves
against.
