Sustainability Appraisal is a process to assess the social, environmental and economic impacts of a Plan and is required under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, and the Environmental Assessment of Plans and Programmes Regulation 2004.  Cheshire East Council is currently developing its Local Plan which will set out a vision, spatial objectives and core policies for the future development of the Borough.

Updated Local Plan Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report June 2017

An updated version of the Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report 2012 is now published.  This updated Scoping Report was produced to make sure that the social, environmental and economic issues identified are up to date, and will be considered when assessing policy documents.

The updated Scoping Report was the subject of public consultation between 27 February and 10th April 2017. Comments were received and, following analysis, necessary changes were incorporated into the published Cheshire East Local Plan Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report (PDF, 2.2MB).

A Consultation Statement (PDF, 0.4MB) has also been produced showing the comments/issues raised on the SA Scoping Report, the Council's response to them, and it identifies any changes made.

Revised Local Plan Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report 2012

An updated version of the Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report 2009 was published in June 2012.  This updated Scoping Report takes account of changes to the planning system since 2009 and was produced to ensure that the social, environmental and economic issues identified are up to date, and will be considered when assessing policy documents.

The Revised Scoping Report was the subject of public consultation between 2nd March and 10th April 2012. Comments were received and following analysis, necessary changes were incorporated into the published Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report for the Local Plan (PDF, 3.7MB).

A Report of Consultation (PDF, 341KB) has also been produced summarising the consultation responses received on the Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report for the Local Plan, and the subsequent changes made to the document.

Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report 2009

As previously set out in the Core Strategy Determination Statement (PDF,39KB), the Council considers that the Core Strategy is likely to have a significant environmental effect and will therefore require a Strategic Environmental Assessment under the Environmental Assessment of Plans and Programmes Regulations 2004. The requirements of the Strategic Environmental Assessment will be incorporated into the Sustainability Appraisal.

This Scoping Report was the the subject of public consultation between 27th April and 1st June 2009.  Comments were received and following analysis, necessary changes were incorporated into the Core Strategy Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report 2009 (PDF, 9.4MB).  This document has now been archived following its update in 2012.
