Sport in the Community
The Cheshire East Sports
Development Team recognizes that sport and physical activity can
play a major role in developing the local community.
It has the power to change communities and lives for the better,
building people’s confidence, providing them with drive and
ambition. Most of all sport and physical activity provides meeting
places and creates friendships. It can even direct young people
away from crime and anti social behaviour.
The
Department of Culture, Media and Sport and Sport England are
now clear that sport and those involved in its delivery can help
local authorities fulfil their duties. For more information on this
please visit
Sport England. The SDT organise a variety of community and
referral based programmes that work in partnership with local
voluntary, public and private sector groups such as Connexions. Social Services and the Youth Offending Team. The SDT provide these
opportunities so that local people have the opportunity to engage
with others, learn new skills and build community involvement. For
