Bound!
Cheshire East Libraries are taking part in the North West
Regional reading and writing initiative, Pages Ago. The initiative
will run between May and November 2010 and is being organised by
Time to Read.
The aim is to encourage people to discover history through
reading, and libraries will be holding special events and displays
to support Pages Ago. Look out for events at your
local library.
These include a presentation on the Staffordshire
Hoard by Stephen Deane, Principal Archaeologist with
Staffordshire County Council. Stephen is bringing his successful
presentation to Macclesfield Library on
26th October after a sell-out evening on 7th July at Congleton Library. The hoard is the largest
archaeological Anglo Saxon find ever unearthed.
On Wednesday 15th September we are hosting another Pages Ago
event at Congleton Library. At 7.30pm
Ray Rowe will be presenting an illustrated talk on behalf of
Congleton Museum, to complement the recent BBC TV series
'Victorian Pharmacy'. Tickets cost £2.00 and are
available in advance from the library or Congleton Museum. Free to
Friends of Congleton Museum.
Look for us at Quarry Bank Mill, Styal from
Saturday 18th September until Sunday 26th September. We are sharing
the exhibition space with the Alsager Weavers, Spinners and
Dyers Guild. They have a programme of activities as part of
their From Fibre to
Fabric exhibition during the week. Come along and find out
about our services in the library and online or even join the
library. Watch our pages for details of follow up activities in
libraries in the autumn.
Inspired by our events? Fancy writing some historical fiction?
Why not enter the Pages Ago writing competition,
Flashback Fiction? Bring the past to life in up to 500
words and you could win a prize in this online competition. Two
categories: under 16s and over 16s.
You can keep track of regional events and Pages Ago information
via the Time to Read
blog.

Cheshire East Council are very keen to encourage local people to
get involved in this once in a lifetime opportunity so that we can
collectively gain from a lasting legacy of social, economic, health
and environmental benefits.
In addition to providing free web access and information about
the 2012 Olympics, Libraries will be joining up with other
Services to deliver activities leading up to and during 2012.
