September 2012 Ranger Events

The Rangers run a large number of varied and interesting events, across Cheshire East, throughout the year. Adult and child (4-17 years old) charges are shown for each event, Children under 4 are free.

Fruit and Vegetable Swop!

This is the first weekly opportunity that you will have on Sundays throughout September and October to exchange your excess garden produce. Organised by Congleton Sustainability Group. You can also donate your surplus apples and receive a free bottle of ‘Congleton Apple Juice’.

Saturday, September 8

Romany Open Day

Better known as Romany to his many “Children's Hour” listeners in the 1930s and 1940s, the Reverend George Bramwell Evens was the first media naturalist to fire the imagination of a generation. These open days are your chance to visit his caravan and learn a little more about his life and times, with the help of the Rangers and members of the Romany Society, through storytelling and displays. The caravan is situated in the Romany Memorial Gardens, South Drive, Wilmslow.

OSCAR sponsored Charity FUN Dog Show

Back by popular demand! A fun filled afternoon for everyone! Bring along your dog and enter one (or more) of the many fun dog classes - Best Puppy/Best Rescue dog/Best Senior/Best Junior handler/Best Trick etc.etc. Rosettes and prizes for all categories.

Entrance fee £1.00 per dog per class - All proceeds raised in aid of charity

Don't get lost!

Bookable event: Don’t get lost! Come and learn basic map-reading techniques and then take your turn to lead the group as we take a 6km (4 mile) ramble. Booking and payment in advance is essential. Minimum age for attendance is 18. Booking and payment in advance is essential. Cost £5.

A walk around Bunbury

Bookable event: This is a short circular walk of 5km (3 miles) which will tale approx 2 hours to complete. The walk follows the Shropshire Union Canal from Bunbury to Beeston village, from where there are magnificent views of Beeston Castle, before the return via field paths to Bunbury. Booking essential.

September Bridgend Centre Walk

A circular walk from the Bridgend Centre, Bollington. Refreshments are provided at the end of the walk. The routes take in points of interest relating to the varied wildlife and history of the area. There is a charge of £2 for adults/£1 for children. The walking is easy, mostly flat.

Nature Walk

Bookable event: Join the site Ranger for a gentle stroll along the Salt Line and adjacent Borrow Pit Meadows and learn a little bit about some of the plants, birds and animals that live in the local area and also hear a little about how the sites are managed. The walk will be at a gentle pace with frequent stopping. (mobility scooter friendly). Booking essential.

Bushcraft Day

Bookable event: A chance to be Ray Mears for the day and try some Bushcraft Skills at Tegg's Nose Country Park.  There will be lots of activities taking place throughout the day for example fire starting (including fire by friction), tracking skills, carving skills and much more. Booking and payment in advance is essential. Cost £4 per person or Family of 4 for £12.
