What's New
Harry Sidebottom - Pages Ago Author Visit
On Wednesday 4th August at 2pm, best selling historian and author
of the Warriors of Rome series, Harry Sidebottom, will talk about
his work. Harry Sidebottom has a fantastic track record with
warrior of Rome I 'Fire in the East' going in at number 4 and
Warrior of Rome II 'King of Kings' going in at number 3.
Harry is Fellow and Director of Studies in Ancient History at St
Benets Hall, Oxford and Lecturer in Ancient History at Lincoln
College. He is also a presenter on 'Ancient Discoveries' for the
History Channel. Tickets cost £2.00 from the library and include
refreshments. Praise for Harry: 'Sidebottom's prose blazes with
searing scholarship' The Times. 'Gladiator - style
battle scenes and well-researched details - not to mention
religious zealots hell bent on destroying the Roman empire - not
even Gladiator had that' Shortlist.
Children's Summer Reading Challenge
at the Library
This year's theme is Space Hop and the
challenge runs from 10th July until 4th September.
Join us for fun activities throughout the holidays and take part in
our exciting adventure reading challenge! Read any books you like,
collect the stickers and complete the challenge by collecting your
certificate at a special award ceremony. Call the library for
further information.
Hop into Space
Join us on Wednesday 4th August for a workshop by Macclesfield
Astronomical Society at 10.30-12.30pm. Suitable for children aged 8
and over.
Space Crafts
Make an intergalactic Hoopla game! Drop in to our meeting
room anytime between 10.30-12.30pm on Monday 9th August.
Star Watching with Jodrell Bank
Planetarium
Come and see the stars this summer. Our friends at Jodrell bank
will be bringing their fantastic travelling planetarium that will
amaze and entertain you. Suitable for children aged 5 and over (the
Planetarium will be in complete darkness). Shows at 10am, 11am,
12.30pm and 1.30pm in the meeting room on Monday 16th August. Book
your show for £2.50.
Blast off with Yoga!
Experience the art of yoga through space stories on Tuesday 24th
August at 10.30-11.30am in the Children's Library. Suitable for
children aged 3 and over.
Supersonic Stories
Join us on Tuesday 31st August for a special storytime at
11.00-11.45am.
Poems Aloud! - National Poetry Day in the Library
Do you love writing poetry or have a favourite poem you would like
to share?
Then why not join us on Thursday 7th October between 10am and 6pm
for a day of poetry reading to celebrate
National Poetry
Day?
We will be reading poems old and new throughout the day in our very
own Poets' Corner.
If you would like a chance to have your chosen poem read aloud
please submit a copy of the poem and your contact details to:

Silver Surfers
Silver Surfers sessions are held every three
months. These are 1 hour taster sessions for the over 50s. Work at
your own pace with an Age Concern tutor in the library. Sessions
must be booked in advance. Call the library on 01625 374000 for

Directions
Macclesfield Library is
situated on Jordangate (off the A537 Hibel Road), not far from the
Town Hall. Jordangate is at the top of the pedestrianised shopping
areas of Mill Street and Chestergate.
Public Transport
The bus
and rail station are both just a short walk away from the
library.
Parking
The only approach
to the library by car is via the Hibel Road end of Jordangate.
Macclesfield has a number of public car parks, but the most
convenient is Jordangate Multi-Storey Car Park which is at the
traffic lights on the corner of Hibel Road and Jordangate. A short
stay car park (up to 30 minutes) can be found behind the Town
Hall on Brunswick Street.
Disabled Parking
Limited
disabled parking can be found at the side of the library, next to
the Post Office’s sorting Office, and also just past the library,
near the Town Hall.
