What is Bookstart?
Bookstart is built on a
simple premise - babies who have an early introduction to books
benefit in lots of ways, educationally, socially, culturally and
emotionally.
Bookstart is administered by Booktrust, an independent Arts
charity funded by the Arts Council England.
What will my child get?
Your child will receive Bookstart packs at regular intervals

Bookstart baby for babies 0-12 months is given to babies by
Health Visitors at their 6 - 9 month health check. The pack is
contained within a purple and yellow bag with a short handle
and zip. The bag contains:
- 2 x board books
- Rhyme frieze - featuring four rhymes
- Babies Love Books (updated Anholt version) - including £1 book
token and book recommnendations
- Black and white booklet for newborns (Baby shapes)
Bookstart Treasure for pre-school children aged 3-4
years is given to children at their nursery setting. The pack
is contained in a red and blue record-bag style bag. The bag
contains:
- 2 x picture books
- My First Marks booklet
- Pack of crayons
- Treasure: a book of ideas guidance document
*Please note the Bookstart+ pack has been withdrawn.
Bookstart Corner is a new, targeted programme for children 12-30
months. It will be gifted to disadvantaged families, via Children’s
Centres. Please email
your local Children’s Centre for details .
The Bookstart Bear
The Bookstart Bear travels all over Cheshire attending
Storytimes and events in libraries. To find out where he's
been and where he'll be off to next see his online diary.
