What is Street Sports
The Street Sports programme provides young people with the
opportunity to participate in various sports and physical activity
sessions within their own community free of charge. The main aim of
the programme is to reduce identified anti-social behaviour and
youth nuisance using sport as a diversionary activity.
Street Sports Summer Programme 2012
Aims of The Street Sports Programme
Street Sports
aims to engage children and young people in structured sport
sessions at a location within their own community, typically on
green open spaces or already established Multi-Use Games Areas.
Although the programme offers football as the main sport, the
programme adopts a wide range of other sports to engage with
children and young people. The alternative sports are agreed via
consultation with the participants and changed as the programme
requires.
Street Sports aims to expand opportunities and increase in sport
by allowing young people the opportunity to make a positive
contribution, through engaging them in decision making and in
law-abiding and positive behaviour. The programme looks to link
communities within the borough, particularly areas that have been
identified by the Safer Communities Partnership as ‘hot spot’ areas
to reduce crime and anti social behaviour.
The programme aims to encourage young people and members of the
community at these sessions to become involved in sport as
volunteers to expand the opportunities and sport related
qualifications and ensure long term stability/sustainability of
these sessions.
Street Games

sport with disadvantaged communities and makes sport accessible to
