Stars of the Future
Cheshire East Council Leisure and Play Development
Team recognise the importance of supporting local talented
sports people to enable them to reach their potential. In
partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University ,
the Department of Exercise & Sports Science and CTC Physiotherapy Team the
Athlete Performance Academy (formerly the Talented Athlete
programme) is designed to support individuals who are training
and competing in sport at regional, national and international
level.
Athlete Profiles
Each athlete accepted onto the Athlete Performance Academy is
asked to create an Athlete Profile. This profile is to help
advertise all the hard work & achievements athletes gain
through training and competitions. Learn more through

Background

The programme was formally launched at a reception at Municipal
Buildings by Cheshire East Mayor Margaret Simon, Councillor Andrew
Knowles Cabinet Minister for Health and Wellbeing and Peter Lee for
Manchester Metropolitan University in December 2009.
The programme was renamed the Athlete Performance Academy in
October 2011.
What support is available?
This programme aims to draw on the resources and capabilities of
Cheshire East Manchester Metropolitan University & CTC
Physiotherapy Team have available.
- Cheshire East Council Leisure and Play
Development Team have a
recognised
and established reputation in developing sport and physical
activity locally. This includes a vast knowledge of local coaching,
volunteering, facility and wider community networks.
- Cheshire East Council Leisure Facilities
Team offers a FREE Leisure Facilities Card which athletes can
access FREE Local Authority Leisure Facilities within the
boundaries of Cheshire East. Athletes will be able to access
Swimming, Gym, fitness classes and more dependent on the
facility.
- Manchester Metropolitan University
Department of Exercise and Sports Science is regarded as one of the
most successful departments in its field within the UK. Over 75% of
their research is rated as World Class and a large proportion of
sport science support for World Class Performance Programmes are
based with the department. Athletes will be able to access support
from university staff, researchers and masters students through
workshops delivered on this programme.
- CTC
Physiotherapy Team have clinics based all over Cheshire East
and are offering Massage Treatment, Postural Assessment, Injury
Rehabilitation and much more at a discounted rate. They have
clinics in Congleton, Crewe, Nantwich, Stoke & Malpas.
Who can apply?
Individuals who...
- Reside within the borders of Cheshire East Council
Individuals who reside outside the boundaries but are current
members of a club within Cheshire East may apply and their
application will be considered.
- Are training or competing at regional level or above (Regional
standard of training or competing is defined by sport
specific National Governing Body (
NGB
) i.e. this may be North West
or North. Individuals will have to produce formal confirmation from
sporting NGB.
If an individual believes they are training or competing at this
level but may not have formal evidence then they are welcome to
express their interest in the programme and will be contacted to
discuss in more detail.
