The
Queen's Diamond Jubilee
To mark 60 years of the Queen's reign the Diamond Jubilee will
take place in 2012. The only other British monarch to celebrate a
Diamond Jubilee was Queen Victoria in 1897. The celebrations will
centre around an extended weekend in 2012 on 2, 3, 4 and 5
June.
Buckingham Palace will be co-ordinating a programme of events
centred around the extended weekend. This will include a Big
Jubilee Lunch, a Diamond Jubilee Pageant on the Thames, a concert
at Buckingham Palace and the lighting of 2012 beacons throughout
the United Kingdom. The Queen and other members of the Royal Family
will also attend a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s
Cathedral.

Guidance Notes for Street Parties
Events may take place in your street or in a
public space, such as a park/playing. We have produced some
guidance notes to help you arrange an
event in your local area.
Cheshire Community Foundation
We are pleased to announce that we have had a tremendous
response to the funding that was offered for community Diamond
Jubilee celebrations across Cheshire East. This funding was
provided by Cheshire Community Foundation and is thanks to a
donation from the Duke of Westminster’s charitable fund, the
Westminster Foundation. A total of £50,000 was made available
across the Cheshire Lieutenancy area, which covers Cheshire East,
Cheshire West and Chester, Warrington and Halton. The funding
for Cheshire East has now been fully allocated and we are in the
process of making payments to the successful applicants.
Please note that the deadline for applying for
road closures has expired.
Jubilee Memories
To mark 60 years of the Queen’s reign Diamond Jubilee,
celebrations will take place around an extended weekend in 2012 on
2,3,4 and 5 June. Buckingham Palace will be co-ordinating a
programme of events including a Big Jubilee Lunch, a Diamond
Jubilee Pageant on the Thames, a concert at Buckingham Palace and
the lighting of 2012 beacons through the UK, several of which will
be lit up in Cheshire East and communities throughout the borough
are holding street parties and events.
We would love to hear stories of how you celebrated previous
Jubilee celebrations. The Queen celebrated her Silver Jubilee (25
years) in 1977 and her Golden Jubilee (50 years) in 2002. The only
other British monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee was Queen
Victoria in 1897. What are your memories of those celebrations? Did
you take part in a Street Party in 1977? Did you dye your hair red,
white and blue in 2002?
Please share your Jubilee memories with us
via this link.
The Big Lunch
The main event is the Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday 3 June.
People are being encouraged to share a lunch with neighbours and
friends as part of the celebrations. This can take the form of a
street party or a picnic lunch in small or large groups. The big
Lunch is all about community, friendship and fun. For ideas
on what to do and how to make it a day to remember visit the Big
Lunch website.
Beacons
Thousands of beacons will be lit around the world on the 4th
June 2012 to commemorate Her Majesty The Queen's 60 year reign over
the UK and as head of the Commonwealth. Cheshire East Council will
be lighting six beacons across the authority. To find out
more about Jubilee Beacons visit the Diamond Jubilee
Beacons website.
More information on what Cheshire East Council is doing to
celebrate the Jubilee will appear here so keep checking back.
