Visual Art
Where can you see it?
Art is all around us. It lifts our spirits and livens things up.
It moves, amuses, entertains. The variety is boundless. From pub
signs to parish maps, from traditional oil paintings to tribal
arts, from ceramics to computer graphics.
It’s in architecture, animation, laser lighting and landscape
design.
Close to where you live ...
Some of the places where you can see the visual arts exhibited
are listed here - but don’t forget to look around you, there may be
some fine examples of art in architecture or sculptures as close as
your local park or nature trail.
... and in the countryside
If you visit the country parks in Cheshire, look for the
specially crafted seats, sculptures and artist designed gateways
and waymarkers. In some you'll find Artists-in-Residence schemes or
environmental arts projects.
Cheshire has a wealth of talented professional artists living
and working within the county. Many of them open their studio doors
to the public over three weekends every September, in a project
called ‘Artists at Work -
Cheshire Open Studios’. Some of their studios are converted
outbuildings, others are garden sheds or a spare room in the house.
Brochures of the event - with maps - are usually available from
your local library from August - or get onto our visual art mailing
list and we’ll send you a brochure.
