Privately Rented - Landlords
Cheshire East Council

Private Landlord Information

We hold regular landlord forums every 6 months. Landlord Forums provide the ideal opportunity for private sector landlords to voice their opinions on, and become actively involved in council ideas and initiatives. Regular meetings make it easier for the Council to keep attendees better informed of any new developments, ideas and training events concerning private sector landlords. If you would like to know more about the forum or when the next one is, please contact us.

Consultation

Central Government are planning to reform the private rented sector and have issued a consultation document for landlords to have their say on the proposed changes. Details can be found on the website of the Department for Communities and Local Government

Illegal Eviction and Harassment

Cheshire East Council has an Illegal Eviction and Harassment Policy which sets out the Council’s Policy towards these issues and describes its arrangements for carrying out this Policy.  It is our responsibility to ensure that the law is abided by, act as an advisor to individuals and businesses and help them to comply with legal obligations without unnecessary expense. It may also be necessary to take firm action in some circumstances to regulate those who may ignore the law or act irresponsibly. This combination of approaches will ensure that all parties reap the benefits of this policy through better information, choice and safety. Cheshire East Council accepts and acknowledges its responsibilities in ensuring that residents in the borough are not illegally evicted or harassed by their landlords.

Valuation Office Agency

Details of how you could help the Valuation Office Agency in setting the Local Housing Allowance levels can be found in the Valuation Office Agency information (PDF, 21KB) document.

Guidance for new Landlords

With the downturn in the housing market, more people are renting out their homes until the market picks up and they are able to sell their home. LACORS, a Government agency, has produced a short guide for people renting out their home (PDF, 213KB). This is aimed at helping those renting out their home for the first time to better understand their responsibilities.
