Domestic abuse

If you are experiencing domestic abuse your first consideration should be your safety and in the case of an emergency you should ALWAYS contact the police first.

We can provide support and assistance by:

  • Referring you to support agencies
  • Helping to find refuge
  • Making your home more safe and secure
  • Helping you move to an area in which you feel more secure

The safest option for men, women and children fleeing domestic abuse is not always available within the borough. As a temporary measure it may be necessary for you to consider refuge accommodation, for you and your family, in the wider North West region or an area where you have alternative family support. We will always respect access to specialist services and schools but the safety of you and your family has to be paramount.

Further information can be found on our Community and Living pages about the subject of domestic abuse.
