Choice Based Lettings

What is Cheshire homechoice?
Cheshire homechoice is
the web portal to affordable housing and social tenancies where
vacant properties are advertised and you can make an online
application.
Applications to join the scheme can be made
online by clicking on the link above or if you contact the team on
0300 123 5031 we can make alternative arrangements for thos who are
not confident with the internet. Once your registration has been
accepted you’ll be able to “express an interest” in any properties
suitable to your circumstances.
Please be aware that you may be asked to
supply supporting evidence before you are able to take part in
cheshire homechoice failure to do so may delay the processing of
your application.
How does it work ?
Cheshire homechoice enables Cheshire Easat to fairly allocate
affordable homes. Each application is assessed and awarded a
priorty banding between 1 and 5, 5 being the highest and most
urgent priority. Applicants with a fully assessed (active)
application are then able to express interest in vacant properties
which are advertised each week.

Allocations Policy which details how social housing properties
are allocated in Cheshire East.
An example of how the scheme works: -
- Register on the waiting list. An assessment of housing
need is made when cheshire homechoice receive an application form
and these are placed in a band ranging from low housing need
through to urgent need to move (5 star is highest housing need and
1 star is no identified housing need).
- Look at the properties advertised online at www.cheshirehomechoice.org.uk
or in local offices.
- Each week, people can express an interest in up to three the
properties that they would like to move to (expressions of interest
can be made via the internet, text or phone). The landlord of
the property will assess the people in most housing need first to
see If the household is suited to that home. They may
then be given a final interview where a few further checks will be
made.
- View the home and decide if you want it. If so, the
landlord for the property will guide you through the
paperwork.
Once properties are allocated, Cheshire homechoice will release
lists to show which properties were allocated to which band and how
long applicants have been on the waiting list.
How YOU benefit?
You fill in ONE application form to register for properties with
ALL the participating housing organisations. As well as
social housing the scheme will eventually advertise private rented
properties and also affordable housing to purchase.
- You decide which properties to apply for
- There is information available about which properties were
allocated to which band of applicant and how long they had been on
the list, making the whole process transparent.
- There is a single allocations policy so all properties are
allocated in the same way (although there may be a few exceptions
for rural schemes)
- There is support available for vulnerable individuals
- It allows greater regional mobility
