We also have an Accident Prevention
Service, where a handyperson carries out small repairs and jobs
around your home.
Is there any charge for the service?
All information and advice we offer to you is given free of
charge.
If you ask us to obtain quotes for repairs or adaptations, there
is a small charge for our time. This is slightly different
depending on how the work is being funded.
Council-funded
assistance
If the work is being funding by Council assistance, for
example Decent Homes Assistance or a Disabled Facilities Grant, the
fee for our service will be paid by the Council. The fee is 10% of
the value of the contractor's work. So, if the contractor quotes
£2,500, we will charge £250.
Funding the work
yourself
If you are paying for the work yourself, perhaps from your
savings or help from a family member, we will reduce the fee we
charge to 5% of the value of the contractor's work. (the minimum
fee is £50). This is because there is normally much less work
involved as we are not having to prepare application forms and
other documents, but also so we don't deter you from having the
work done - most important to us is that you get the work carried
out to a high standard by someone reputable, and you aren't
left on your own to find a contractor.
We will ask you to pay a £50 deposit for us to write a
specification of the works, or prepare drawings, and obtain quotes
from the contractors. If you decide to go ahead with the work, we
will deduct the £50 from the fee. If you don't go ahead with the
work, the fee is not refundable.
Charity-funded
work
If a charity is paying for the repair or adaptation, we won't
charge a fee.
