Landlord Renovation Assistance
Improving housing standards in the private-rented sector
How much is it?
50% of the cost of eligible works up to £15,000.
In addition, you can apply for 50% of any eligible VAT
and fees to be reimbursed by us.
Please note: we are experiencing
a high demand for Landlord Renovation Assistance, and our funding
has been fully allocated for 2010-11, so there will be a delay
before we are able to offer you funding.
Am I eligible to apply?
You may qualify if you are a private landlord, and your property
is either:
- currently occupied by a tenant not related to yourself, or
- currently empty, and has been for 2 or more years
What works will it pay for?
The works must be to bring the property up to the Decent
Homes Standard. This can include roof repairs, windows, electrics,
central heating, damp proofing, and many more. We can assess your
property and tell you what repairs will qualify for assistance.
Visit the Decent Homes page for more information about the
standard.
Do I have to repay this assistance?
Rather than financial repayment, we ask for 5 years ‘nomination
rights’ to your property. This means that the Council will nominate
potential tenants for you to consider. You still have the
landlord-tenant relationship; we just propose potential tenants
from our housing waiting list. If you decide not to accept any of
the tenants that we nominate, or you sell the property within 5
years, you will have to repay the assistance. A local land charge
will be registered against your property for 5 years.
Can I apply again?
You won’t be able to apply for Landlord Renovation Assistance
again for the same property for ten years after your work has
been completed, but you may be eligible for other types of
assistance.
How do I apply?

online enquiry form. Please be aware that there are long delays
