Additional Disabled Facilities Assistance
Help for disabled people to meet the costs of adapting their
home
How much is it?
Up to £10,000 assistance, IN ADDITION to the mandatory Disabled Facilities Grant
(DFG).
Am I eligible to apply?
If you are eligible for a DFG but the cost of the eligible works
and fees exceeds £30,000, you can apply. The assistance is
means-tested, and your assessed contribution (if any) towards the
mandatory DFG will be taken into account. Where the adaptation is
for a child and no means-test was carried out as part of the DFG
application, the family of the disabled child will need to undergo
a means-test to apply for this discretionary assistance.
You can either be an owner-occupier or a tenant to qualify.
What will it pay for?
The cost of eligible work and fees in excess of the DFG (up to a
maximum of £10,000).
The assistance can't be used to help people to pay their
assessed contribution for the DFG.
Do I have to repay this assistance?
If you own your home, then yes it is repayable, when you sell or
transfer your home, or it is no longer your main residence. The
amount you repay is exactly the same as the assistance we give you,
so if you ‘borrow’ £10,000 from us, you repay £10,000. This is done
by registering a local land charge on the property.
If you are a tenant, you do not have to repay this
assistance.
Can I apply again?
Yes, if you are assessed as needing further adaptations, and you
are eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant that will exceed the
maximum limit.

Sector Housing team.
