Report a faulty street light
It is helpful if you have the column number (number clearly written on the lighting column itself) or a nearby house number to help us identify the street light at fault.
In Cheshire East there are:
- over 40,000 street lights
Street lighting repairs
Street lighting repairs are made on a priority basis, with highest priority being given to faults presenting the greatest risk.
We are sometimes required to liaise with electricity providers to resolve a fault which can take:
- Up to 20 working days for multiple faults from point of contact with the electricity provider (not the date when the fault was reported to us)
- Up to 25 working days for a single fault from point of contact with the electricity provider (not the date the fault was reported to us)
Cheshire East Council maintain approximately 40,000 street lights and 4,000 illuminated signs or bollards across the Borough. We are responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of all adopted lighting units.
Street lighting that is not our responsibility
Some street lights are owned and maintained by Parish or Town Councils and Housing Associations and maintenance of street lights in some new developments or private roads are the responsibility of other organisations. We will advise on the ownership of these lights when possible.
