Programmes for young people

Healthlynx

Healthy LivingHealthlynx is an innovative activity programme for young people. The healthlynx programme aims to support and assist schools to deliver enjoyable health and fitness activities both inside and outside the curriculum. Physical activity provides an important vehicle for play and recreation, learning physical and social skills, developing creative intelligence and stimulating growth and fitness.

Recognising that traditional sports may not appeal to all young people, the programme is aimed at encouraging those pupils who do not to enjoy sport to try other non-competitive forms of physical activity, such as Cheerleading, Aerobics, Body Combat, Pilates, Skipping, Fun Games, Arcade and much more. In many cases the young people will not have experienced some of the activities, but will hopefully find them good fun as well as improving their health.

MEND Family Weight Management Programme

MEND is an integrated multi-disciplinary approach to tackling obesity and overweight, placing equal emphasis on behavioural change, exercise and nutrition. Research has shown the programme to be effective and it is delivered in accordance with NICE guidelines and is approved by the DH, DCMS and DfES. Although the entry requirements and programme focus initially on the young person, parental/carer involvement is essential so that changes are eventually made to the behaviour of the whole family to ensure long term benefits.
