Hearing Impairment
Anyone with hearing difficulties
should consult their
GP
who may refer them to a hospital, community Audiology Department or
Consultant. The cause and amount of hearing loss will be checked. A
hearing aid can be provided free of charge.
Can I get someone to represent me when dealing with everyday
problems?
Yes, such a person is called an
Advocate
and is someone who can support or represent you when dealing with
everyday problems or in times of crisis. They can offer you support
and information on how you can access your rights. They act on your
behalf if you don’t have the confidence to act for yourself.
How can I get help from social services?
You may be eligible for a wide range
of services from us following an assessment
of your needs. Contact your
local Social Care Team for more details.
Who else can provide help?
The Deafness Support
Network provide a wide range of services for people with
hearing difficulties, registration of all hearing impaired people,
an advice service regarding services and benefits (using
videophones), counselling and support to deaf people and their
