Design and Management
The Council's Landscape Architects work in
multi-disciplinary teams, offering a design service to other
Unitary departments, for both hard and soft landscape schemes from
Masterplanning through to construction, and post-construction
long-term management advice. Projects include:
Regeneration Projects
The
Landscape Team contribute their design skills to a range of
regeneration
projects, including Townscape improvements and projects in
the countryside. This includes the urban design of the
streetscape - enhancement of pedestrian areas, realigning kerb
lines, renewing paved areas and providing street furniture and
trees. Other projects include access routes, landscape
conservation work and input to partnership projects with other
agencies.
Projects include: Handforth High Street,
Macclesfield Rail Station Car park, Nantwich Road Improvements,
Crewe and Prestbury High Street improvements, Bollington and
Disley townscape improvements and other projects in
development.
Highways

Work for highways schemes includes visual assessment and
landscape designs for new roads and road improvement schemes.
On larger road construction schemes a "visual impact
assessment" of the proposed road is the first measure
taken to reduce potential adverse effects. Impact
mitigation may include earth mounding and screen planting to reduce
the visual impact of moving vehicles, the creation of new landscape
features such as ponds and hedgerows to compensate for the
unavoidable loss of existing features, and the creation and
management of new wildlife habitats within the highway
corridor.
Projects include: A34 Alderley Edge Bypass,
A5301 Nantwich and Crewe Green Link Road.
Waste Management
Landscape Architects support the Waste Management
Service in the development of new facilities, advising upon the
visual impact of new Household Waste Recycling Sites and the design
and establishment of planting schemes.
The Waste Management Service is also responsible for a number of
closed landfill sites. Here the team advises on the establishment
or enhancement of woodland planting. Some of these sites are
now highly valued by the local community for informal
recreation.
Projects include: Pym's Lane Closed
Landfill Site, Crewe
Land Reclamation
Working closely with
Engineers, a landscape service is provided to develop brownfield
and contaminated land strategies and to promote and implement the
reclamation and re-use of brownfield sites.
Property Management
The Landscape Team design landscape schemes and land management
plans for council farmland, woodland, the grounds of new schools
and other council premises.
Projects
include: Woodland Planting in Alderley Edge and
landscaping for the Macclesfield Learning Zone, Millennium Wood and
Queens Park
restoration.
