Personal health - feeling ill or medical questions

If you are feeling unwell or have a medical question that you do not feel requires a doctor, you can contact NHS Direct on 111 (24 hours a day, every day) or visit the NHS Direct website.

In many cases, your local chemist or pharmacist may be able to provide help and advice for minor ailments.

Walk-in Centres are a fast and convenient way to access NHS services including health information, advice and treatment for minor illnesses (coughs, colds, infections) and injuries (sprains, cuts, strains). The centres are open from early morning to late evening, seven days a week. There is no appointment necessary.

Accident and Emergency (A&E) Centres can be searched for online by visiting the NHS A&E Search webpage

In an emergency, always dial 999.

Please remember, hoax calls cost lives.

Hospitals

NHS Hospitals are run and managed by Acute Trusts. Please access the NHS Website for more details on NHS hospitals. The site includes a search facility for local hospitals alongside information on the cost of travelling, how to complain and how to choose a hospital.
